Why should Oamaru be Eco-friendly?

Dear: Gary Kircher

Through this letter I hope to persuade you some reasons why I believe Oamaru should be an Eco-friendly community to stop the impact of Climate Change. Why? You may ask. Well, do you hope for a harmless environment, longer existence of animals and plants, improvement of health and cleanliness of our Ocean? Oamaru becoming Eco friendly is the first step of fulfilling these things. Doing so will also influence other regions to make a change. Taking this first step will hopefully give the following generations the future and life they deserve.

To begin with, taking this thought into consideration would be a show of our community doing its part in making the planet a harmless environment. We would also be minimizing the pollution that is exposed into the Earth’s precious atmosphere. from this we will be stopping air pollution, which for every living thing is great because we will be breathing fresh and healthy air. If Oamaru was to become Eco friendly we would also be reducing the amount of landfill and rubbish decomposed into our country. Which, as a plus would also save families a lot of money spent on rubbish being taken out. Together we can put a stop to climate change by becoming an Eco friendly district.

Secondly, taking this sensible move will hopefully influence other regions to also become Eco friendly. You see, if Oamaru were to take this step of becoming Eco friendly we as a community, would be influencing other regions to do so too. This would be an extraordinary development because before we know it the whole of New Zealand would be Eco friendly. Just imagine what other countries around the world would think, perhaps even they too would be deeply influenced and would do the same. The world would be a truly better place. Don’t you think so too?. And all the inspiration came from the first step our community could make. In saying that it won’t be easy, but I believe that we can become Eco friendly if you do this together.

Thirdly, we could be saving many precious living things this world possesses. If you think about it, our town becoming Eco friendly could possibly save life on Earth. We would be saving the habitats of many marine species as well as giving them a longer existence of a healthy life. But not just marine animals but all spices that live on Earth, including humankind. If we act now we could stop climate change, which would then offer a healthy and better future for the following generations. At the moment the future of humankind isn’t so promising, but if we make a change sooner we could endure a longer, healthier and happier life for the generations to come.We all want the best life for those next in the world, so becoming Eco friendly could possibly fulfil these hopes. We all hope to see the Earth at its best, and I believe becoming Eco friendly will give us the world we hope to see. Together we can make a change.

In conclusion, I think that taking this thought into consideration would show the means of our community taking responsibility to make the world a harmless environment, a longer existence of plant and animal species, influence to other regions and an improvement of health. In saying this it won’t be easy, but I believe that together we can make a change for the better of our environment.

Yours sincerely,

Ayin

What is global warming?

What is global warming?

Global warming is when the thick layer of Greenhouse gases trap heat from the sun. This is the result of an increase of temperature on the planet. There are many different things that increase the temperature that then cause the globe to warm. Some of which include human activity such as burning of fossil fuels. Global warming has many effects on life on Earth. Raising in sea levels, inclement and dry weather, extinction of animals, high increases of diseases and a rate of food loss are consequences of global warming.

Firstly, Global warming is an aspect of climate change that is an increase of the regular temperature on Earth. Global warming is when carbon dioxide, greenhouse gases and other air pollutants are trapped in the atmosphere. These gases then absorb the heat from the sun and solar radiations that have bounced off the Earth’s surface. These radiations are meant to beam into outer space, but due to the gases that trap the heat, causes the planet’s temperature to rise. This is why it is known as the Greenhouse effect.

Secondly, Global warming is caused by many different factors. Some of which include burning of fossil fuels, agriculture, farming, deforestation and tree clearing. When fossil fuels are burned, such as coal, oil and natural gases to create electricity or to power our cars, it is polluting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Agriculture and farming also contributes to global warming. These activities are a contributing factor of global warming because methane gas is particularly associated with ruminant livestock such as cattle, goats and sheeps. Methane is a greenhouse gas that is 28 times stronger than carbon dioxide at warming the Earth. Deforestation and tree clearing is also an anthropogenic aspect of global warming. Plants and trees play a major role in regulating the climate. They absorb carbon dioxide and many other greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere.

Thirdly, Global warming can have major and serious impacts on living life on Earth. For starters, when the Earth starts to warm the glacier ice caps start to melt. When these ice caps melt and turn into water it then makes its way to the ocean. As the water goes into the ocean it rises to sea levels. When sea levels rise, the land on Earth is forced to go under water. Not only does this affect life on land but it also affects the animals that live and rely on glacier ice caps. Global warming can also affect the way we live our daily lives. There would be higher chances of catching diseases and infection outbreaks will become more often. Our precious animals and the beautiful nature surrounding us could come to extinction, all due to global warming. This is because global warming affects their habitual life and also the resources they need for them to survive. Forests, farms, cities and towns will face more difficult problems such as new pests, heat waves, increased rate of storms and heavy downpours. All of these factors will damage and destroy agriculture and fisheries.

In conclusion, Global warming is caused by a thick layer of greenhouse gases that trap heat. Global warming is an aspect of climate change that affects every living thing on this Earth. It increases the average temperature that then causes the globe to warm. Global warming can be caused by my different activities and a big factor is the burning of fossil fuels. Because of global warming every life on Earth is affected.

100 Word Challenge Week 7

MEMORIES

I slammed the door shut, she was trying to explain. Archie followed. I could see in his light ocean blue eyes that he was upset too. Together we walked down the farm hill, trying to lower the increase in our anger. Why would they make such a stupid decision? We stop next to the stream. This is my calm spot. Dad had shown me this place, I think it's incredible. Dad always said that this special stream carries memories. Oh how I will miss memories when mum moves me to the city.  I pull out my camera and snap an unforgettable memory.

Fav memory as a year 7

Fav memory in year 7

My favourite memory in year 7 was having the privilege of attending the 2019 Rockshop Bandquest in Mosgiel. I had the honor of being a part of O’nesians band. We would be the first band to represent Oamaru. The travel down was packed with adventure. We sang songs and jammed all the way to Taire College where the competition would be held. We engagedly watched other bands perform to the best of their abilities. The building was full of excitement. “O’nesians please get ready to perform, you're up next”. My guts churning as if it was a washing machine, I follow the others into the back room. We hesitantly prepare ourselves for the big moment that is about to take place on the stage. I lead the band out to the frightening stage. The flying things that used to be butterflies in my stomach are now turning into dinosaurs stomping in anger. I stand with my shaky legs in front of the microphone and stare out into the open audience, my stomach is sore. The soothing music starts and I let out all of my nervous dinosaurs, and fill the room with the start of our first song. We move on to our last song that we perform with our all and with a hyped up vibe. Later we stood on the stage with all the other groups facing the audience, we waited impatiently for the awards to be announced . “ Best Vocalists goes to … O’nesians”. Wait…what? Did I hear that right. Kale, Saane, Pua and I just got “best vocalist”? As I shake the man's hand I feel the whole world at my feet. As we make our way back to where we were standing, the band in 3rd place is awarded. I applaud and give them a smile as they walk past.

“Runner up is…..O’nesians”. Surely I heard that wrong. Pride, happiness and joy fill the atmosphere. The adults and parents who came to support were cheering like a roaring pack of wolves. I’m speechless. Well, needless to say,  It was Viliami, (Drums) Kenny, (Electric guitar) Lesieli, (Keyboard) Sharifa, (Bass Guitar) Saane, (Vocalist 1) Puaesi, (vocalist 2) Kale, (Vocalist 3) and myself Ayin’s (Vocalist 4) first time at a Banquet Competition, we won best vocalists and 2nd overall. For all the hard work we put into the band, the awards were well deserved. There were also other awards such as 1st placing, best drummer, best electric guitar, best bass guitar and many more. This was one of the favourite experiences of my life. I am proud of the awesome performance we performed and all the memories we made with each other as a band but also with other bands that we met along the way.

100 Word Challenge Week 12

Reluctantly, I stared in disbelief. The old painting on the building was half peeled. How was I supposed to clean this hideous house that seemed like an abandoned ghost home. I wandered up the crackled walkway that led itself to the main entrance, I spotted something very odd. A flash of a shadow passed by a nearby window. The handle just wouldn’t budge. I pulled myself together and kicked down the door. It flung open with a great bang, and then I saw it … It stood very still in front of me as if it had known me. TO BE CONTINUED ...

During the Lockdown I wrote a letter to New Zealand's Prime Minister

  34 Chelmer Street

  24th March, 2020.

Parliament Building,
Molesworth Street,
Thorndon,
Wellington 6011.

Dear Honorable Prime Minister,

My name is Ayin Esela, I am a year 8 student at Oamaru Intermediate School. I am writing this letter to thank you for your sensible and thoughtful approach to the world wide pandemic, Covid 19 in New Zealand. You have taken this occurrence with maturity and I just want to thank you for your decision making that will help New Zealand in the nearer future.

I also want to thank you for encouraging words you have said so that New Zealanders will not be under pressure. While this pandemic is spreading it is essential to keep on top of our hygiene. Some ways include washing hands thoroughly, having showers daily, washing clothes and wiping down surfaces. We must also keep away from others if we are not feeling well. We must cough and sneeze into a tissue or into your elbow.

This pandemic becomes a crisis for some people through finance. Most people will lose their daily jobs and some left to live on their savings. But I thank you and the government for helping those who are struggling at the moment. Some of which may be people who lost their jobs due to this pandemic and others may be people who had to shut down their businesses. New Zealand is appreciative of your decision.

I also want to thank you for emphasizing about different ways to help each other out so that we can stick together during these discouraging times. We should not panic buy because if some buy a lot some people will be left out. You also advised us to be kind to each other and look out for one another especially the vulnerable. We could check up on the elder people and make sure they are doing alright.

I am truly a proud citizen of New Zealand, knowing that the Government of today is doing an exceptional job looking after our precious Aotearoa in their decision making. I take pleasure and gratitude to have a Prime Minister and Government that I know is doing the best for New Zealand. Thank you so very much.

Yours Sincerely,
Ayin Esela

‘Winter’
[Colour] Winter is a sheet a white blankets,
[Sight] Towering trees are now scary long skeletons,
[Feel]  Irritating frostbites between my fingers,
[Smell] The fresh scent of wet and damp grass rushes by with the wind,
[Hearing]  The sparks of the fire sound ferocious,
[Taste]  Hot choccy runs over my tongue, and down my throat,
[Emotion] All is fresh, cold, and precious in the world.
